The Flying Scotsman set two world records for steam traction, it became the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at reaching 100 mph (161 km/h) on the 30th November 1934. Subsequently, while in Australia, a record of 422 miles (679 km) was set for the longest non-stop run by a steam locomotive on the 8th August 1989.
